Chandler Family Establishes Scholarship

The Oklahoma State University [OSU] Foundation announced gifts totaling $13,000 in memory of the late Kimberly B. Richards. This charitable gift will service scholarships for freshman students from the Chandler area.

Richards, a Sallisaw native, graduated from OSU in 1978 with an associate’s degree in Executive Secretary and Office Management, and was also an active member of Kappa Delta sorority. She was an active member in the OSU Alumni Association and took great pride in attending every OSU sporting event her calendar would allow.

The annual scholarship from the Kim Richards Endowed Scholarship Fund will be awarded to freshmen with strong academic records and involvement in extracurricular activities with preference given to high school seniors from Chandler, Okla.

Kim married Dr. Wendell Richards on Aug. 6, 1977 and raised three children; Weston, Lucas and Erin. Together, they were all great fans of OSU basketball and contributors to OSU athletics. She was also an active member of the Chandler community whose commitment to her church and various service organizations proved her to be an instrumental leader in her rural community. Richards passed away on April 23, 2004. Richards’ gift will offer valuable higher education opportunities to future scholars, and will undeniably leave a lasting legacy that will live on in perpetuity at OSU.
