OSU bids a fond farewell
Tuesday, December 3, 2002
Students, staff and members of the Foundation all turned out, despite icy weather conditions, to bid a fond farewell to two people who have made a tremendous contribution to OSU - Jim and Ann Halligan.
James and Ann Halligan joined the OSU Family in 1994. Since then, the dynamic pair has reversed a twelve-year trend in declining enrollment with student-centered programs and facilities. During Dr. Halligan’s presidency, Oklahoma State University was named America’s Best College Buy and a Truman Scholar institution.
Under the direction of the Halligans, freshman-to-sophomore retention increased 85 percent, classrooms were converted to multimedia venues, and new student housing reversed a trend of students moving away from campus.
The Halligans have made an enormous contribution to Oklahoma State University, so naturally, no one was happy to hear them announce their retirement. While the Halligans will be remaining in Stillwater and continuing to help with certain OSU projects, they are looking forward to having the flexibility to spend more time with their eight grandchildren.
Thanks so much, Jim and Ann, and enjoy your well-earned retirement!
