 Sons Pay Tribute to Father Through $50K Scholarship at OSU
STILLWATER, Okla. – Oklahoma State University [OSU] Foundation announced gifts totaling $50,000 to endow a President’s Distinguished Scholarship received from brothers, Ronnie and Bruce Bankston, in honor of their late father, Bobby G. Bankston. The President's Distinguished Scholarship (PDS), one of the most prestigious undergraduate scholarships offered at OSU, is a four-year $2,200 per year scholarship funding tuition, room, board and books for aspiring scholars.
From meager farming roots in Holdenville, Okla. to President of VME, Inc., Bobby G. Bankston truly ran the gamut of success by focusing on the value that made it all possible: education.
Ronnie & Bruce Bankston, credit the success their father earned in life to the education he received at OSU. Bobby G. Bankston, a '53 dairy production graduate, was as a member of the award-winning Dairy Cattle Judging Team.
“It is touching stories, like the Bankstons, that help us to reconnect the OSU family,” said Debbie Clemons, Scholarship Coordinator. “To endow a President’s Distinguished Scholarship merits the highest praise, and as one of the most coveted of all scholarships, its legacy will live on in perpetuity for future generations.”
Upon their father's death in April 1999, a decision was made to fulfill their father's legacy by endowing a PDS for an animal science major that will forever carry on their father's vision. Ronnie, a professor at University of Northern Iowa and Bruce, a retired teacher and coach from Burleson, Tex, attribute this gift to the true character of their father.
“Deciding how to pay tribute to our father was an easy decision,” said the Bankston brothers. “Through words and actions, he communicated the value of a college education to us and enhanced our ability to earn the credentials necessary to pursue our career goals. It is our hope that this scholarship will support the dreams of future recipients.”
