OSU--The Stepping Stone to Growing Up
OSU was the stepping stone to growing up for Becky Adcock. She would do it all over again in a heartbeat, even though she was an out-of-state student and missed her family and friends. What she found at OSU, in the residence halls and in the Stillwater community, has grounded her for life.
Becky chose to remember OSU in her estate plans because people before her set an example that made her experience possible. She was the recipient of a merit-based scholarship. She feels everyone should make a gift of time, self and money for a charitable organization that is important to him or her. She said, It is part of the OSU spirit!
Becky graduated in 1980 with a bachelors degree in microbiology, with a minor in chemistry. She always wanted to work in a hospital in the field of behavioral medicine. She was very active in the Residence Hall Association (RHA) and worked as a desk clerk during her sophomore year, then as resident assistant her junior and senior years in Wentz Hall. During graduate school, she was an assistant head resident at Willham North.
Beckys feelings about establishing a charitable gift for OSU came when she was 27 years old, shortly after an automobile accident. It seemed natural that part of her estate be directed to OSU.
Becky realized her dream and is a clinical psychologist in the Department of Neuropsychology at the Jim Thorpe Rehabilitation Center in Oklahoma City. In her work, she has learned life is not fair, and she has met many individuals who have survived life-threatening accidents.
Becky feels that all people should be concerned about what happens to their assets and should be sure that these assets go back to the places where their values were learned.
For her, it was church and OSU. She said, You dont have to be a millionaire or billionaire to include OSU in your estate plans.
Her estate gift will go toward Residence Hall Association (RHA) Leadership Scholar awards. Through her planned gift, she is making it easier for others, like herself, to focus on schoolwork and extracurricular activities.
